Did you know that in DC 68,900 people are facing hunger? Of the 68,900; 17,890 are children. Washington D.C.is composed of 8 wards, 3 of these wards are considered “food insecure.” Food insecurity is commonly defined as the condition of not having access to sufficient food, or food of an adequate quality, to meet one's basic needs. While this has become a major issue in our communities, here’s what you can do to help!

  • Donate money to nonprofit organizations such as Roots for Life. We have a mission to promote healthier eating habits while eradicating food deserts in Washington D.C. specifically wards 6, 7, and 8.

  • Advocate! Raising awareness to the issue of food insecurity is necessary because many people do not know this is an issue that many locals face.

  • Volunteer. Be the change you want to see! Grab a friend and head down to your local food pantry to extend a helping hand.

  • Donate food to organizations with a mission to end hunger.
