What to Cook with Regrown Ingredients

Common plants that can be re-grown are green onions, lettuce and celery. But what can you do with them?

Even if you’re not harvesting enough to create full meals with them, these ingredients can be used to add flavor and nutrition to your everyday cooking.

Here are some simple ways to turn regrown ingredients into delicious meals.

Green Onions

Green onions are a great ingredient for versatility.

They can be used in:

·         Rice bowls

·         Scrambled eggs

·         Omelets

·         Soups

·         Ramen

·         Tacos

·         Quesadillas

For a quick meal, you can make a simple rice bowl with beans, vegetables and some chopped onions on top to finish it off.

Lettuce

Small leaves of lettuce can go a long way.

They can be used for:

·         Burgers

·         Tacos

·         Side Salads

·         Wraps

·         Sandwiches

Celery

Celery can add depth to a variety of simple meals.

They can be used in:

·         Soups

·         Salads

·         Stir-fries

·         Chicken salad

·         Pasta

For a quick snack, you can mix up some chopped celery with canned tuna, some mayonnaise, and maybe even throw in a few spices.

Meal Ideas

To use your regrown ingredients, you do not need complicated recipes. Instead, you can combine them with ingredients that you already have.

·         Vegetable stir-fry: rice, frozen veggies, celery, green onions

·         Egg Scramble: eggs, vegetables, green onions

·         Soup: broth, beans, celery, spices

·         Wrap: Meat of your choice, lettuce, green onions

All it takes is one small step. Every time you use regrown ingredients, you are making the most of what you have. Start off by trying one simple recipe and build progress from there.
