Growing Your Own Radishes

Growing Your Own Radishes

Radishes are one of the easiest vegetables to grow. After the seeds are planted, it only takes on average a month for them to be ready to harvest! Radishes are best when planted in cool weather in the spring or fall. Because of their quick growing period, they can be planted in virtually any empty space in your garden, even alongside other plants.

How to Plant

  • Plant seeds ½ inch deep in loose soil

  • Space 1 inch apart from each other

  • Plant in an area that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day

  • Water often; radishes need consistent moisture to support their growth

Harvesting

Check your seed packet to determine the best time to harvest. Start by pulling one radish out as a test—if the roots are approximately 1 inch in diameter, they are ready to harvest. Other signs your radishes are ready to harvest are if the green tops are 6-8 inches long, or when the tops of the radishes are pushing up out of the soil.

How to Store

Cut off the green tops and thin the roots. Wash and dry thoroughly and store in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator. Enjoy your radishes cooked or raw!
