π COOK
Crops in the Kitchen Crops in the Kitchen is more than a cooking class, itβs a pathway to community leadership. The program builds food literacy, cooking confidence, and health awareness while training residents to become Community Chefs who share knowledge and lead change.
Cooking Classes & Demonstrations
Our hands-on cooking classes teach participants how to prepare seasonal produce, explore its nutritional benefits, and make healthy, budget-friendly meals.
Classes are hosted throughout the community and the locations of our community partners.
Community Chef Certification
Through a tiered certification model, residents advance from Apprentice (Bronze) to Certified Community Chef (Gold) by completing Crops in the Kitchen training, co-teaching classes, hosting fridge demos, and participating in advocacy workshops.
Certified Community Chefs become leaders who educate others, host cooking demonstrations at our F.R.E.S.H. Community Fridge and help sustain the Roots for Life mission.
Recipes for Change
In partnership with Cultivate the City, Roots for Life provides seasonal recipes for CSA subscribers, helping families make the most of their produce boxes and explore new, nutritious meals at home.
